School System Placing Gravel After Heavy Rain Causes Flooding at Lott Middle School

Officials with the Mobile County Public School System said Tuesday that steps have been made to ease the problems created by flooding at Lott Middle School in Citronelle. School board commissioner Doug Harwell said gravel and rock will be installed at the school to create walking paths for students and staff.

The fate of Heather Leavell-Keaton, the woman accused of poisoning her common law husband's two young children with anti-freeze, is up to the jury. Closing arguments in her capital murder trial ended on Tuesday in Mobile County Circuit Court with prosecutors alleging that Leavell-Keaton wanted to get rid of John DeBlase's two young children, Natalie and Chase, so that she and John could start a new life with their then unborn child.

A 17-year-old Theodore girl was killed Tuesday afternoon on U.S. Highway 45 just south of Bud Odom Road when the sedan she was driving collided with a tractor-trailer, Citronelle police said. The victim's name was not released pending notification of her family.

A young woman died in a traffic accident after she apparently pulled out in front of a semi-truck while using her phone Tuesday afternoon, according to the Citronelle Police Department . Around 2:15 p.m. Tuesday, the teen was leaving a home on Highway 45, near the 27-mile marker, in a Mazda 6. As she pulled out onto Highway 45, the Mazda and a tractor-trailer collided, said Det.

Three Citronelle men have been arrested and charged with kidnapping, assault and robbery in a case involving drug buying, authorities said. Jeremy Allan Weaver, 26, Tremaine Johnson, 34, and Joseph Halle McKinney Jr., 27, were arrested after being accused of robbing, beating, kidnapping and leaving a Chunchula man for dead on Sunday, Citronelle police said.

A two-vehicle crash Saturday, July 18, on Celeste Rd., five miles north of Saraland city limits, claimed the life of a Chunchula man. A spokesman for the Alabama State Troopers said Alton George Miller, 63, was killed when the 2000 Toyota Corolla he was driving collided with a 2000 Ford F-150.

A Mobile County teenager was killed early Saturday morning when the car he was riding in left the roadway and overturned. Donald Coleman, 18, of Citronelle wasn't wearing a seat belt and was partially ejected from the 2008 Nissan Altima during the crash which occurred at around 2:20 a.m., according to Alabama state troopers.

A Citronelle man was injured Thursday afternoon when the roof of a former feed store collapsed on him, according to Citronelle police. Porter Dewayne Causey, 48, was airlifted to Mobile Infirmary for treatment after the roof of the former store at 211 N. Mobile St. fell on him, the police report said.

Man suspected of killing five, seizing girlfriend

The suspect in the killing of five people at a home in Alabama attacked them while they slept and then abducted his estranged girlfriend and an infant - both of whom were found alive, authorities said Sunday.
